Three Southeastern Conference teams fell out of The Associated Press Top 25 and Auburn dropped 12 spots Sunday after the league that set a record for most teams in the college football rankings last week had a rough weekend.

Arkansas (No. 18), Tennessee (No. 23) and Mississippi State (No. 25) all dropped out after losses Saturday. The Tigers needed overtime to beat Jacksonville State of the FCS and slipped from No. 6 to No. 18.

The SEC was down to seven ranked teams, still the most of any conference.

Ohio State remains No. 1, but the Buckeyes are no longer unanimous. No. 4 Michigan State received two first-place votes from the media panel after beating Oregon 31-28. Alabama remains No. 2. TCU is 3.

No. 19 BYU jumped into the rankings after beating Boise State and knocking out the Broncos. The Cougars were ranked for four weeks early last season before star QB Taysom Hill was injured. Hill went down again in the season opener at Nebraska, but Tanner Mangum has led BYU to two consecutive victories with late long touchdown passes.

Oklahoma moved up three spots to No. 16 after coming from 17-0 down to win at Tennessee, 31-24 in double overtime. Oregon dropped five spots to No. 12 after its loss at Michigan State.

Moving into the rankings this week were No. 23 Northwestern, No. 24 Wisconsin and No. 25 Oklahoma State.

South Carolina QB out

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina quarterback Connor Mitch will miss four-to-six weeks with a separated shoulder and a badly bruised hip.

Coach Steve Spurrier said Mitch will be in the hospital for the next day or two as doctors fight an infection that developed from a significant hip bruise suffered in South Carolina's victory over North Carolina on Sept. 3. Mitch also hurt his right shoulder diving on a fumble in the second quarter in a 26-22 loss to Kentucky on Saturday night.

Perry Orth replaced Mitch against the Wildcats, and Spurrier said Orth will get the start when the Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC) face No. 7 Georgia (2-0, 1-0) this week. Lorenzo Nunez and Michael Scarnecchia will back up Orth.

Mitch missed two practices last week, receiving treatment for his hip bruise.

Tide have kicking woes

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama is having kicking troubles again, a familiar refrain for a program often loaded on both offense and defense.

The glaring deficiency could haunt the second-ranked Crimson Tide as the schedule toughens, starting Saturday night against No. 15 Mississippi.

Adam Griffith has missed his first four field goal attempts this season, including 24-yard and 49-yard attempts against Middle Tennessee on Saturday.

"When Griff hits the ball, he kicks the ball well," Coach Nick Saban said after the game with the Blue Raiders. "I think a lot of these kind of things are mental confidence, psychological disposition. I think he needs to make some kicks."

Saban seems to be sticking by Griffith, for now.

"We obviously need to get more production there, but we also have confidence in him. We think he can get the job done. There may come a point some time when we give somebody else an opportunity."

The backup placekicker is punter JK Scott, who has also struggled, especially compared to last season when he led the nation in punting as a freshman.

Griffith made his first seven kicks last season and then was 5 of 12 the rest of the way.

Irish's Zaire done for season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Quarterback Malik Zaire is out for the season after fracturing his right ankle in the third quarter of No. 8 Notre Dame's last-minute 34-27 victory overVirginia on Saturday.

Zaire gained 3 yards on a designed run and was helped to the sideline, then taken away in a cart. Coach Brian Kelly announced Zaire was done for the year after the game.

DeShone Kizer replaced Zaire and C.J. Prosise ran 24 yards for a touchdown on the next play. Prosise replaced Tarean Folston, who was knocked out for the season last week with a knee injury.

Zaire was 7 of 18 passing for 115 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown to Fuller. He ran 10 times for 87 yards.

Rutgers receiver suspended

Rutgers star receiver Leonte Carroo has been suspended indefinitely after being involved in an incident outside the Scarlet Knights' stadium in Piscataway, N.J., following Saturday's game.

Coach Kyle Flood announced the suspension Sunday. He declined to give details of the incident, saying only it was under investigation.

The Scarlet Knights lost to Washington State 37-34 on Saturday. This season has started with numerous off-the-field troubles.

The university is investigating Flood for sending an impermissible email to a professor about a player's academic status. Rutgers has dismissed six players from the team after they were arrested in connection with a string of home invasions and an assault.

Carroo was also suspended for the first half of the first game of the season for a team violation.
