ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- David Ortiz hit two home runs to become the 27th player in major league history to reach 500 home runs, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-4 on Saturday night.

With an overflow crowd in the right-field stands on their feet and chanting "Let's go Papi!," Ortiz reached the milestone when he lined a shot to right-center on a 2-2 pitch from Matt Moore leading off the fifth. He connected for No. 499 in the first.

Ortiz has 50 multihome run games in a 19-year career.

Ortiz pumped his right arm as he ran toward first base. His teammates emptied the dugout and bullpen to celebrate the big hit with him.

The designated hitter connected in the first on a 1-2 pitch from Moore, a towering three-run shot into the right field stands.

Ortiz has eight home runs in his last 14 games, and 34 this season to became the fourth player to reach the milestone while playing for the Red Sox. He joins Jimmie Foxx (1940), Ted Williams (1960) and Manny Ramirez (2008), who also hit their 500th home run on the road.

Ortiz was lifted for a pinch-runner in the seventh after flaring a single to center for his third hit in four at-bats. He received a partial standing ovation from the announced crowd of 20,698 while returning to the dugout.

Moore (1-4) gave up 8 runs and 9 hits over 5 innings.

Rick Porcello (8-12) got the victory after allowing 3 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings.

ANGELS 3, ASTROS 2 C.J. Cron hit a tiebreaking home run to lead off the eighth inning and host Los Angeles beat Houston.

ATHLETICS 5, RANGERS 3 Mark Canha had a three-run home run and Danny Valencia a two-run shot in the fifth inning, leading visiting Oakland over Texas. Oakland had been shut out for 16 consecutive innings before Canha's three-run home run, his 15th of the season, off Yovani Gallardo.

BLUE JAYS 9-10, YANKEES 5-7 Toronto opened a season-high 4 1/2-game lead in the AL East, sweeping a doubleheader from host New York on a sodden Saturday when Troy Tulowitzki cracked a shoulder blade and Marcus Stroman won in his return from a spring training knee injury. Jose Bautista hit two home runs, Chasen Shreve forced in three runs with bases-loaded walks in the 11th inning, and the Blue Jays rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the opener.

ROYALS 14, ORIOLES 6 Mike Moustakas hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and finished with a franchise-record nine RBI as visiting Kansas City beat Baltimore. Moustakas singled home two runs in the sixth inning, hit his second career slam in the seventh and capped his record-setting performance with a three-run drive in the ninth. The previous team record for RBI in a game was seven, by Billy Butler against Philadelphia on April 7, 2013.

WHITE SOX 8, TWINS 2 Adam Eaton had three hits, Carlos Sanchez hit a two-run double and host Chicago used a seven-run fourth inning to beat Minnesota. Trevor Plouffe had two hits and an RBI for the Twins.

DODGERS 9, DIAMONDBACKS 5 Corey Seager had four hits, including his first career home run, as visiting Los Angeles went deep four times in a victory over Arizona. Joc Pederson, Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford also had home runs for the Dodgers.

GIANTS 8, PADRES 0 Madison Bumgarner lost his bid for a perfect game on a base hit with two outs in the eighth inning, the only blemish for San Francisco's ace in a victory over visiting San Diego. Bumgarner (18-7) retired his first 23 batters before pinch-hitter Melvin Upton Jr. sent a clean single up the middle. The left-hander received a warm ovation from the disappointed crowd of 41,564 and then went right back to work.

MARLINS 2, NATIONALS 0 Jose Fernandez returned from the disabled list and became only the third pitcher since 1914 to win his first 16 career decisions at home when host Miami beat fading Washington. Pitching for the first time since he was sidelined by a right biceps strain Aug. 7, Fernandez (5-0) threw 5 innings, allowed 2 hits and struck out 7.

METS 6, BRAVES 4 Kelly Johnson drove in the tiebreaking run in the ninth inning, Yoenis Cespedes hit a home run for the eighth time in 11 days and NL East-leading New York won its sixth in a row with a victory over host Atlanta. New York, which trailed 1-0 in the first, leads the majors with 14 comeback victories since Aug. 1. Since July 1, the Mets are 25-11 on the road, best in the majors over that span.

PHILLIES 7, CUBS 5 Pinch-hitter Cody Asche hit a walk-off, two-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning to lead host Philadelphia to a victory over Chicago. Hector Rondon (5-4) got the first two outs of the ninth before walking Erik Kratz. Asche followed in the pitcher's spot and drove the first pitch into the foul pole in right field to help Philadelphia win for just the fifth time in the last 19 games.

PIRATES 10, BREWERS 2 Jeff Locke pitched one-run ball into the seventh inning and Michael Morse hit a pinch-hit grand slam as Pittsburgh defeated visiting Milwaukee. Locke (8-10) allowed three hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out 7 and walked 2 after losing consecutive starts and 4 of his last 5 decisions.

REDS 5, CARDINALS 1 Skip Schumaker hit a three-run home run, rookie Anthony DeSclafani pitched six strong innings and host Cincinnati won their second game of the day, beating struggling St. Louis. Earlier, Adam Duvall's two-run home run in the eighth lifted the Reds to a 4-2 victory in the completion of a game suspended by rain Friday.

INTERLEAGUE

MARINERS 7, ROCKIES 2 Robinson Cano, Jesus Montero, Franklin Gutierrez and Nelson Cruz all hit home runs to lead Seattle in a victory against Colorado.
