Wreck closes Centerton road for three hours

A stretch of highway leading from Elm Tree Elementary School in Bentonville into Centerton neighborhoods reopened after a wreck closed it for three hours Wednesday.

A tractor-trailer hauling gravel overturned and blocked one lane of traffic was reported at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Arkansas 72 near Versailes Boulevard, according to dispatch records. The truck's fuel tank spilled onto the roadway, although the spill was classified as under 10 gallons, according to dispatch. Both Centerton and Bentonville responded to the wreck.

The roadway was closed in both directions as wreckers struggled to right the truck.

A social media post from the City of Centerton reported that Arkansas 72 was closed from intersections at Main Street to Tater Black Road.

Benton County Emergency Services posted a picture on social media of firefighters cleaning up the spill, noting that no one was injured. The truck was leaking oil, fuel and hydraulic fluid just south of Versailles, said Mike Dixon, director.

Fire and ambulance personnel left at 2:14 p.m. and the road was reopened, with some officers still at the accident site as cleanup moved onto the shoulder, according to dispatch records.
