Two wrecks on state roads leave two dead, one injured

One man was killed and another was injured Sunday when two motorcycles collided on Interstate 30, according to Arkansas State Police.

Ranthony L. Ward, 30, and Justin R. Lofton, 23, both of Hot Springs, were driving motorcycles west on I-30 near Malvern about 2 a.m.

According to a preliminary report, Lofton's 2004 Suzuki hit the back of Ward's 2013 Kawasaki. Both motorcycles slid several feet and then caught fire.

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene. Lofton suffered injuries and was transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.

On Monday, a Hamburg man died after his car went off the road and struck a tree, state police reported.

The wreck occurred at 9 a.m. near Fountain Hill in Ashley County.

Lee Terry Jenkins, 63, was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang west on Ashley County Road 89 when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the left side of the road and hit a tree, a preliminary report states.

Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
