If you were in the stands at Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium on Sept. 6, 2013, you witnessed something very rare.
Webb City, Mo., lost a football game, courtesy of the Har-Ber Wildcats.
Har-Ber rallied from a 21-point deficit and defeated Webb City, 42-35. The loss snapped a 91-game regular season win streak for the Cardinals, who went on to claim another state championship in Missouri's Class 4A.
Webb City hasn't lost another game since. Their winning streak is up to 30 consecutive after beating Class 6A Kansas City Rockhurst 49-20 last week. Rockhurst, which will play at Har-Ber next week, led 14-0 before Webb City responded with 40 consecutive points.
Har-Ber finished 8-4 after stopping Webb City's long winning streak in 2013. The Wildcats expect to win eight or more this season after falling to 3-8 last year.
There is much optimism in the Wildcat camp with the return of 7A-West rushing leader Luke Hannon and the addition of senior quarterback Fuller Chandler, a transfer from Springdale High. The biggest question marks are on defense, where Har-Ber was shredded for over 32 points per game last year.
Webb City (2-0) typically wears out opposing defenses with a powerful rushing attack that chews up nearly 300 yards per game. Quarterback Tyson Roderique, the coach's son, doesn't throw much but he was 4-for-4 in last week's win over Rockhurst.
So, what are Har-Ber chances of sending Webb City back to Missouri with another rare loss?
Much better if the Wildcats play error-free football, which they didn't do a preseason scrimmage against Tulsa Union. But beating a team that's already played two games and with 30 consecutive wins is too much to expect from the Wildcats.
