Pedestrian, driver die in 2 accidents

Two people died in fewer than nine hours in accidents on Arkansas roads, Arkansas State Police reported.

A Pangburn man died Thursday afternoon on McJester Road in Pangburn, 1.9 miles east of Arkansas 110 in Cleburne County, according to a state police report.

James Michael Vaughan, 40, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet west "at a high rate of speed" at about 4:20 p.m. when the car ran off the road and hit a tree, the report said.

An Alexander woman died early Friday morning while trying to cross Interstate 30 on foot near Scott Hamilton Drive in Little Rock in Pulaski County, state police reported.

Taina Curry, 22, was walking across the interstate at about 1:10 a.m. when she was hit by a westbound 2013 Dodge, the report said. Curry died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge -- Gregory Smith, 41, of Little Rock -- was not injured.
