Officers recapture inmate who left job

He walked away from Texarkana site

Authorities on Saturday recaptured an inmate who walked off a job site last week.

The Arkansas Community Correction Special Response Team captured Joshua Patterson, 37, about 4:30 p.m. Saturday at a Little Rock homeless shelter, according to department Deputy Director Dina Tyler.

"They took him into custody at the shelter without any problems," Tyler said. Patterson was taken to the Pulaski County jail to await pickup by the Department of Correction, she added.

Department of Correction staff members noticed Patterson's absence about 6 a.m. Oct. 19 when they arrived to pick him up from work at M&M Milling, located at 2801 Washington St. in Texarkana, Correction Department spokesman Cathy Frye said in a news release.

Patterson had been at the Texarkana Regional Correction Center since June. He is serving 16 years for a theft-of-property conviction out of Benton County.

Patterson is believed to have walked at least a half-mile on railroad tracks before his wife, Stacy Patterson, picked him up in a 2001 Kia Sephia, Frye said.

Officials said they believe Stacy Patterson dropped her husband off on the afternoon of Oct. 19 along Arkansas 157 at Donnie Stephens Road near the Providence Community. Stacy Patterson was taken into custody that evening at her Batesville home on local warrants unrelated to her husband's escape, Frye said.
