PROVE THE POSSIBLE

KIPP alumni, students tutor guests about program's goal

It was a chance for students and alumni at KIPP Delta Public Schools to prove their successes at the Prove the Possible Gala at the Clinton Presidential Center on Oct. 15.

Two KIPP alumni -- Joseph Whitfield and Roquel Williams, now college graduates and teaching in KIPP schools -- served as the evening's masters of ceremony, welcoming guests to the dinner. This was followed by KIPP Forrest City College Preparatory School's choir's first public performance.

Two current students, Collier Wright and Johnia Guyton, spoke about their KIPP experience and possibilities.

Wright, a student at KIPP Forrest City and new to the school last year, said after having trouble fitting in at his previous school, he found, "This is where I've meant to be all along."

Guyton, noting the tough academic standards at KIPP Blytheville Collegiate High, said a little voice in her head tells her "to keep pushing to prove the possible."

She is preparing for her journey to "go to and through college."

Gov. Asa Hutchinson gave the keynote address. Money raised will support the KIPP Through College program, whose mission is to ensure that college graduation is an option for all KIPP Delta students.
