Eric Allen Reid of Hot Springs Village was charged in the slayings of his 57-year-old wife, Laura Reid, and his daughter Mary Ann Reid, who was 32.

Garland County Sheriff Mike McCormick said the killings were "related to family discord" and that the investigation is ongoing.

In addition to the suspect and two victims, McCormick said, three other people were in the house on Northwood Trail at the time of the slayings. One of those people was another of Eric Reid's daughters, who called police about 8 p.m. Monday.

When police arrived, McCormick said, they found Eric Reid standing outside the house, arrested him without incident and recovered a handgun at the scene.

A Hot Springs spokesman confirmed that Reid worked as an equipment operator for the city's Street Department for about a year and a half.

Reid was booked into the Garland County jail shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday. He remained there later Tuesday with bail not yet set.

Reid is scheduled to appear in district court Nov. 3.
