Police discovered knives in the back of a man's car during a traffic stop Saturday morning and he was arrested in connection with possession of methamphetamine.

Erik Friar, 33, of 248 N. Platinum Drive in Fayetteville was arrested Saturday in connection with carrying certain prohibited weapons, felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

Police stopped Friar after a person approached them and said a man was "bouncing" all over the place in Tobacco Superstore, 1237 Martin Luther King Blvd., according to a probable cause affidavit for Friar's arrest.

Police saw Friar, who matched the person's description, leave the store. Friar made a series of turns then parked on a dead end street as police followed.

Friar's movements were erratic during a traffic stop near the intersection of 15th and School streets, according to police documents, and he looked through two wallets for identification.

A police search of the vehicle turned up 1.3 grams of methamphetamine and two Tramadol Hydrochloride pills in a coin purse and several knives, according to the affidavit. One knife, located between the passenger seat and center console, was attached to a lanyard as if to be worn around the neck. Others were in the back of the vehicle and were not accessible from the driver's seat, according to the affidavit.

Friar was arrested and questioned by Fayetteville police. He was released from the Washington County Detention Center on a $1,500 bond Sunday.
