New school board draws term times

Drawing for board terms was among the first orders of business last week for the seven members of the newly elected Jacksonville/North Pulaski School Board.

The board also elected officers for the year and decided to invite a representative of Little Rock Air Force Base, which is located in Jacksonville, to be a regular ex officio member of the School Board.

Daniel Gray, who was president of the former, interim board for the new district, was elected president by his board colleagues. Ron McDaniel was elected vice president and Carol Miles was elected secretary. Marcia Anne Dornblaser was selected to be the disbursing officer.

In regard to their lengths of service, McDaniel and Dornblaser drew four-year terms. Gray, along with Miles and board member Dena Toney drew three-year terms. Board members Jim Moore and LaConda Watson drew two-year terms.

The varying lengths of terms for these initial school board members will keep the board from having all of its members running for election at the same time in future years. The terms of office from here on out will be four years.

Col. William Brooks, commander of the 19th Mission Support Group, is the base representative on the School Board.
