Walmart donates to Centerton school's teachers

CENTERTON -- Twenty teachers at Centerton Gamble Elementary School received $50 reward cards this week through the Walmart Teacher Rewards program.

Teachers may redeem the cards at Walmart to buy classroom supplies. The reward cards, worth a total of $1,000, are part of more than $4.5 million Walmart donates nationwide at the beginning of each school year to help offset what teachers pay for classroom supplies, such as paper, binders, crayons and markers.

More than 5,000 U.S. Walmart stores, distribution centers and Sam's Club locations are eligible to choose one local public school to receive 20 reward cards. The Walmart Dispatch 6801 office, part of the distribution center on Southwest Regional Airport Boulevard in Bentonville, chose Centerton Gamble Elementary.

The office of about 60 employees voted for Centerton Gamble Elementary after nominating several different schools for the honor, according to Debbie Hall, the office's human resources manager. Teachers who received the reward cards were chosen through a drawing.

Centerton Gamble Elementary School enrolls about 690 students in grades kindergarten through four.
