— The Razorback Foundation has appointed its fifth executive director in a little more than three years.

Scott Varady will take over the position on Dec. 1, according to a news release. Varady has spent the last 19 years as general counsel for the University of Arkansas.

"Scott is a very positive addition to the Razorback Foundation," said Ken Mourton, Razorback Foundation board chairman. "He is certainly familiar with the Razorback Foundation after working closely with it on behalf of the university for many years."

Varady will replace Norm DeBriyn, who was named interim director of the foundation in July. Former executive director Sean Rochelle left the position earlier this year to accept another job.

The Razorback Foundation is the private fundraising arm for the athletics department at the UA. According to USA Today, donations to the Razorbacks totaled more than $21 million in 2014.

"He has worked closely with the Razorback Foundation and the department of intercollegiate athletics throughout his tenure at the University of Arkansas," said Jeff Long, UA athletics director, "including negotiating coaches' employment agreements and representing the department in various matters crucial to the success of our program."

Prior to working for the university, Varady worked with law firms in Washington, D.C. and Little Rock. He was a staff member for U.S. Senator Dale Bumpers (D-Arkansas).

He received a bachelor's degree from the UA in 1985 and received two degrees from Georgetown University.
