FORT SMITH, Ark. — The U.S. Marshals Museum has named the curator for its planned facility in western Arkansas.

The museum said Tuesday that it has hired David Kennedy as museum curator. Kennedy now serves as curator of collections for the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid, Okla. He's also worked as curator at the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyo.

He'll start his new role with the Marshals Museum on Nov. 2.

The museum, which is estimated to cost $50 million to $55 million, will showcase the history of the U.S. Marshals Service. Organizers are aiming for a 2018 opening date.
