NWA Fishing Report

BEAVER LAKE

Striped bass are biting near Beaver Dam at night and in the mornings.

Aaron Jolliff at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said shad or brood minnows are working 20 feet deep or shallower. Look for surfacing stripers early in the morning. Cast a Zara Spook or similar lure to these surfacing fish.

Black bass can be caught on top-water lures early. Go with a small plastic worm on a dropshot rig later in the day. Fish 20 feet deep along points and rocky banks. Try a spinner bait or crank bait on the south end of the lake.

Crappie are biting 30 feet deep on the south half of the lake around docks and brush. Use minnows or jigs. Walleye are biting nightcrawler rigs from the Arkansas 12 bridge to Rocky Branch park.

BEAVER TAILWATER

Nancy Rose at the Beaver Dam Store said trout are biting orange or white Power Bait tipped with a waxworm. Spoons, crank baits and jigs, all in small sizes, are the top lures.

Best flies are olive-colored midges or woolly buggers in low water. Try Clouser minnows or streamers in high water.

LAKE FAYETTEVILLE

Dolly Black at Lake Fayetteville boat dock recommends fishing for bluegill with worms or crickets under a float. Go with plastic worms or crank baits for black bass. Catfish are biting liver or hot hogs.

LAKE SEQUOYAH

Mike McBride at Lake Sequoyah bait shop said black bass fishing is good with top-water lures, plastic worms or spinner baits. Catfish are biting shad or liver. Bluegill are biting worms or crickets. Crappie are biting along the flats on minnows or jigs.

LAKE ELMDALE

Lucky Key at Duck Camp Fishing Retreat said the crappie are biting. Artenio and Betty Diaz of Rogers used minnows to catch crappie to 16 inches long on Sept.

Catfish are biting worms fished near the bottom. Black bass are hitting black buzz baits early. Try chartreuse/white spinner baits or red plastic worms later in the day.

SWEPCO LAKE

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said the best fishing is at night for black bass. Use large plastic worms 2 to 20 feet deep.

SILOAM SPRINGS LAKE

Stroud recommends using medium-diving crank baits for black bass. Try lures that dive six feet deep.

ILLINOIS RIVER

Stroud said all varieties of soft plastics are working for black bass. Rooster Tails are another good choice.

BELLA VISTA

Justin McClelland at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said black bass fishing is good at all Bella Vista lakes with spinner baits, buzz baits or jig and pigs. Bluegill are biting worms or crickets 8 to 12 feet deep. Catfish are biting shrimp.

EASTERN OKLAHOMA

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports good crappie fishing with small jigs 10 to 15 feet deep around brush and structure. Catfish are biting well on cut shad drifted from a boat 15 to 30 feet deep near the river channel.

TABLE ROCK LAKE

The Missouri Department of Conservation reports good bluegill fishing with worms. Black bass are biting Ned rigs or jig and pigs along secondary points. Goggle-eye are biting Beetle Spins.
