LR Parkview cuts off NLR at pass

Javon Franklin and Ryan Pippins each hit two free throws in the final 14 seconds and Little Rock Parkview managed to hold off North Little Rock for a 53-50 nonconference victory Tuesday in front of packed house at Charles Ripley Arena.

Pippins scored 21 points and Franklin finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Patriots (2-0).

North Little Rock (0-2) grabbed a 50-49 lead with 51 seconds to play on Adrian Moore's five-footer and regained possession after two Parkview misses with 17 seconds left, but a three-quarters length of the court pass backfired on the Charging Wildcats.

"If that play works, you look like a hero," North Little Rock Coach Johnny Rice said of the long pass. "But that's not what we needed in that situation."

Pippins came up with a steal, and after a Parkview timeout Franklin was fouled on an attempted dunk. The 6-5 junior made both free throws with 14 seconds left.

North Little Rock's Jarvis Ricks drove the length of the court but had the ball swatted away and the ball wound up in Pippins' hands. Pippins added the final points with :03 showing. The Charging Wildcats missed a half-court shot at the buzzer.

Parkview was 18 of 41 from the floor; NLR was 17 of 41.

"We're struggling on offense, and we shouldn't be because we've got experience," Parkview Coach Al Flanigan said. "We just need to play a few games."

Moore scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the game's final 5:07. Parkview led 43-34 before Moore scored eight consecutive points to pull North Little Rock to within 43-42 with 3:49 to play.

North Little Rock guard B.J. Walker added 15 points, with all of his scoring coming on three-point shots.
