Ethics panel fines, cautions former legislative candidate

The Arkansas Ethics Commission fined an unsuccessful Libertarian legislative candidate $250 and issued the candidate a public letter of caution, according to commission records released Tuesday.

The commission found that Rodger Paxton of Marion violated state law by failing to file a final campaign-finance report for the 2014 general election as a candidate in House District 51, commission Director Graham Sloan said in a letter to Paxton dated Tuesday.

Paxton is required to pay the $250 fine at the commission's office no later than Dec. 24 and to file a final campaign report for the election with the secretary of state's office on or before Dec. 4, Sloan said.

Paxton could not be reached by telephone Tuesday afternoon.

In the election, state Rep. Deborah Ferguson, D-West Memphis, defeated Paxton by a vote of 4,089 to 1,454, according to the secretary of state's office.
