Little Rock patrol officers and detectives confer during the investigation Tuesday of a woman’s death at 2511 Bishop St. Authorities said a man called to say he killed the woman Monday night and told police where to find her. The man was later arrested.

Officers were dispatched at 11:07 a.m. to 2511 Bishop St., off Roosevelt Road. Derrick Jermaine Mason, 37, surrendered to police at the two-story house, and officers found a woman's body inside, according to police spokesman officer Richard Hilgeman.

The woman was identified as Jessica Ryan Berliew, 34. Her body was taken to the state Crime Laboratory for autopsy.

According to police, Mason told investigators that he got into an argument with Berliew when she got home from work, and he killed her. Hilgeman said no weapons were found at the scene.

An arrest report said Mason told officers "he had choked his girlfriend to death."

Details about the reported argument weren't released.

Berliew worked at the Paper Moon Gentlemen's Club, according to her Facebook page.

Mason has been charged with first-degree murder. He also faces unrelated charges of failure to pay and contempt of court. Court records show that Mason had been on probation after several misdemeanor convictions, including carrying a weapon and public intoxication, going back to 1998.

Mason -- also known as "Cookie Monster," according to court records -- was being held in the Pulaski County jail late Tuesday.

Several Bishop Street residents gathered outside his home as police investigated Tuesday, but they declined to speak to a reporter.

The killing is the city's 25th homicide of the year.
