Bentonville wreck injures one

A two-vehicle wreck snarled traffic Tuesday on Southeast Walton Boulevard in Bentonville.

A wreck between a semitrailer and a Mazda CX9 was reported at 7:47 a.m. in the 700 block of Southeast Walton Boulevard, according to a Bentonville Police Department news release.

Driver Teresa Golden, 50, was removed from the Mazda by Bentonville Fire Department personnel and taken to Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville.

Rubin Cortez, 46, the driver of an Arpin America Moving Van Line semitrailer, wasn't injured.

Golden was headed east when her vehicle crossed the center turn lane and hit Cortez's truck, according to the release. Cortez told police he attempted to avoid a head-on collision by swerving and changing lanes.

Golden's vehicle hit the truck just behind the fuel tank. When her car came to a stop it was blocking a lane of traffic going east.

The severity of the accident caused the road to be blocked for an extended period of time during the investigation, according to the release. Just after 10 a.m. one lane of traffic going west still was blocked, but it appeared a second truck had been brought in to move the semi-trailer.

No one had been cited Tuesday afternoon although police noted the accident was still under investigation.
