"We set the game back about 40 years with our shooting," Early said. "We had about as bad a shooting night as a team can have."

It was that kind of game as the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Mounties 43-40 in an ugly performance at the new arena in Prairie Grove. Ashley Cox scored 10 points for Prairie Grove, which led by as many as 13 points in the second half.

Rogers (1-2) finally found its range in the fourth quarter to get to within 41-38. But Mattie Hartin made two free throws with five seconds left to secure the victory for Prairie Grove (3-0).

Rogers made only 11 of 46 shots (23.9 percent) from the floor, including 3 of 18 from the 3-point line. The Lady Mounties still made a late rush behind Elise Randels, who scored 10 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Both team played Monday night, but neither coach cited fatigue as a reason for the poor play between two girls programs that among the best in the state.

"We just happened to make some shots here and there and got a lead," Prairie Grove coach Kevin Froud said. "The positive side is we still figured out a way to win a ballgame. But we've got a lot of things we can get better at."

The only basket of the third quarter came with seven seconds left when Taylor Hartin drove the lane and made a free throw to complete a three-point play. Prairie Grove's other possessions consisted of traveling calls and missed shots, including at least three that failed to hit the rim.

Rogers was even worse in the third quarter. The Lady Mounties' only points came on five free throws and the Lady Mounties didn't made a field goal in the second half until Madison Sandor hit a three-pointer with 5:12 left in the game.

"As ugly as that was, we continued to fight and cut it to one possession in the fourth quarter," Early said. "We can be better but for whatever reason, we were really, really rough tonight."

Prairie Grove led 27-17 at halftime on the strength of two three-pointers by Camree Bartholomew and one each from Taylor Doss and Parker Lopez. Taylor Hartin and Lopez each finished with nine points while Bartholomew added eight.
