Wreck snarls traffic on Walton Boulevard

A two-vehicle wreck snarled Bentonville traffic Tuesday on Southeast Walton Boulevard.

A wreck between a semi-trailer and a Mazda CX9 was reported at 7:47 a.m. in the 700 block of Southeast Walton Boulevard, according to a news release from the Bentonville Police Department.

Rubin Cortez, 46, driver of an Arpin America Moving Van Line semi-trailer was not injured.

Driver Teresa Golden, 50, was removed from the Mazda by Bentonville Fire Department personnel and taken to Northwest Medical Center–Benton County.

Golden was headed east when her vehicle crossed the center turn lane and hit Cortez' truck, according to the release. Cortez told police he attempted to avoid a head-on collision by swerving and changing lanes.

Golden's vehicle hit the semi just behind the fuel tank. When her car came to a stop it was blocking a lane of eastbound traffic.

The accident blocked the road for an extended period of time during the investigation, according to the news release. Just after 10 a.m. one lane of westbound traffic was still blocked but it appeared a second truck had been brought in to move the semi-trailer. No one had been cited in the incident on Tuesday although police noted the incident was still under investigation.
