Curley Wolves send Pirates packing

PRESCOTT -- Prescott had no problem with Greenland as it advanced to the Class 3A state quarterfinals with a 40-7 victory over the Pirates on Friday at Eddie Jackson Field at Cummins Stadium.

The Curley Wolves wasted no time on offense as Trevor Pipkin connected with Kadarius Pearson for a 46-yard pass on the first offensive play of the game. Running back Carlos Vanhook scored on a 3-yard TD run four plays later.

The Curley Wolves went back to the running game to start the second quarter. Vanhook carried the ball seven times on an 11-play drive before scoring on a 5-yard run.

Prescott caught Greenland off guard with an onside kick and Avery McKay recovered for the Curley Wolves. Pipkin found Brandon Walker for a 35-yard gain then found Demarko Gulley on a 20-yard TD pass to give the Curley Wolves a 20-0 advantage.

Pipkin scored from the 1-yard line with two minutes left in the second quarter to give the Curley Wolves a 26-0 halftime lead. Prescott held the Pirates to 114 yards of total offense in the opening two quarters.

Greenland scored on its opening drive of the second half on a 10-yard touchdown run by Alex Sisemore. Sisemore led the Pirates with 133 yards of rushing on 34 carries.

The Pirates forced a three-and-out on the Curley Wolves next possession, but couldn't score after several false start penalties.

Vankhook broke loose for the Curley Wolves on a 51-yard gain before Pipkin scored two plays later on a 2-yard touchdown run.

Pipkin connected with Pearson on a 56-yard TD pass to put Prescott ahead 40-7.

Cole Self was intercepted by Ja'Mozyia Williamson for a third time to seal the victory.

Pipkin was 23 of 32 for 234 yards and had 4 total touchdowns, two passing and two rushing. Vanhook had 24 carries for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Pearson led the Curley Wolves in receiving with seven receptions for 146 yards and one touchdown.
