Temporary closing scheduled Sunday for I-49 near Lowell

A 15-minute traffic shutdown is planned Sunday morning for a 2-mile stretch of Interstate 49 between Lowell and Springdale.

A power line spanning the highway is scheduled to be removed during the shutdown, according to the state Highway Department.

Both directions of travel will be closed 7-7:15 a.m. between exit 78, which leads to Monroe Avenue in Lowell, and exit 76, which leads to Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale.

South traffic will be stopped at the Monroe Avenue on ramp and north traffic will be stopped at the Wagon Wheel on ramp, department spokesmen said in a notice issued Thursday.

Arkansas State Police will direct traffic around the area.

Weather could delay the project.

The 4-mile construction project is part of the Connecting Arkansas Program and the new four-lane U.S. 412 Northern Bypass that extends from Interstate 49 to Arkansas 112. More information on this $100.6 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
