FAYETTEVILLE -- The Arkansas women's basketball team will try to continue some early momentum when it hosts Sam Houston State at 2 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena.

The Razorbacks (1-0) rolled over Southeastern State 97-53 on Friday but won't have much preparation time for their second opponent. Arkansas coach Jimmy Dykes admitted that's somewhat by design.

CHALK TALK All 11 Arkansas players scored in the Razorbacks’ season-opening win. … Jackson was in double figures in each of Arkansas’ first two games, including 20 in the exhibition win over Missouri Southern. … Sam Houston State lost to Texas Christian 85-59 in the season-opener, after defeating Mary Hardin-Baylor 75-59 in an exhibition game. … Welch-Nichols was an all-conference player for the Bearkats in 1988 and led Sam Houston State to its first Southland Conference title in 2013.

"I like playing another game really quickly. We need that -- to stay in game mode right now," Dykes said. "We know that Sam Houston is probably better than our first opponent, and we know that our next opponent will be better still and it's going to be that way all season long. We have to come out and continue to improve with each practice and game as the season progresses."

"Sam Houston State is a good team. They have two kids that didn't play last year. They will be a step up. They have some talented kids. They are going to make us work. We are going to have to be better on Sunday, and I do know that."

Arkansas has five freshmen on the roster, and the newcomers struggled at times in the exhibition game. But guard Malica Monk was better Friday. She scored 10 points, dished out three assists and had two steals in only 16 minutes off the bench.

Junior college transfer Devin Cosper, who got the start in the opener, also impressed Dykes. The 5-10 sophomore had eight points and five rebounds in 23 minutes. She also has committed just three turnovers in three games, including the exhibition and scrimmage.

"I like her size up front," Dykes said. "She is a steady influence for us up there, and she defended well."

Kids younger than 12 get in free on Sunday home games, while all general admission tickets are $5.
