Warriors start early, easily eliminate Bears

Little Rock Christian 42, Sylvan Hills 15

Little Rock Christian scored on four touchdown passes and two runs to advance to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs with a 42-15 victory over Sylvan Hills on Friday night.

Despite the lopsided score, Little Rock Christian Coach, Jeff Weaver credited the victory to his defense's stingy performance, one that only allowed one first half score.

"The defense really set the tone early. Didn't give em' an inch for the first few drives," Weaver said. "That enabled us to relax a little bit and get two scores."

The Warriors first scored on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Kyron Sanders to Isaiah Harper with 6:28 left in the first quarter and Little Rock Christian never trailed.

Weaver's defense forced a three and out on the Bears' next drive. After the ensuing punt, senior running back Damarea Crockett scored on an 80-yard run with 4:05 left and the Warriors took two-touchdown lead.

With 6:09 left in the first half, Sanders found Harper again for a 15-yard touchdown to go up 21-0.

The Bears countered with a successful drive that ended in a 23-yard touchdown run from Ty Compton but, after a missed extra point, they trailed 21-6.

The Warriors killed any momentum before the end of the half when Sanders threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Joe Hampton in the waning seconds of the half.

Little Rock Christian forced a three and out for Sylvan Hills to start the third quarter. Sanders threw a screen pass to Crockett that went for 39 yards and a touchdown, capping a six-play drive, giving the Warriors a 35-6 lead.

On the Warriors' next drive, Crockett scored on a 7-yard touchdown to end it.

Crockett ran for 115 yards on 11 caries and two touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 58 yards and a score.

Sanders ended the night 17 of 23 for 254 yards and four touchdowns.

"Damarea [Crockett] he's so explosive, anytime he touches the ball you feel like he's got a chance to score," Weaver said. "Kyron [Sanders] did a good job making good decisions with the ball. Just proud to win."

Sylvan Hills' quarterback Jordan Washington rushed for 95 yards on 23 carries and was 5 of 14 for 109 yards, but threw two interceptions.

Compton got 32 yards on four carries.
