ROGERS -- A solid nine-hole round of golf helped Rogers High senior Chase Rogers earn a college scholarship.

Rogers played nine holes of golf with Missouri Southern State University golf coach Mike Wheeler, and two of the Lions players while on his visit to the Joplin, Mo., campus. Rogers played well that day and the Mounties senior will continue his golf career at Missouri Southern after signing a national letter of intent Thursday.

"I played nine holes with coach Wheeler and two of his players," Rogers said. "I tied one of his players and I beat the other one. Coach Wheeler really liked that. Coach Wheeler rode in the golf cart with me and talked through everything that I did with each shot. I just liked everything about my visit."

Rogers started focusing more on his game before his junior year in high school and that continued this past summer. Rogers, who carried a 37 stroke average for nine holes, earned medalist honors four times this past season while earning All-Conference and All-State honors.

"I spent a lot of time on the course this past summer doing anything I could do to improve my game," Rogers said. "It came down to improving on the little things."
