4 killed in crashes on state roadways

Four people were killed in four separate crashes on Arkansas roads in recent days, the Arkansas State Police reported.

A Smithville man was killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 412 at the U.S. 67 overpass in Lawrence County, state police reported.

A 2002 Mercury was traveling on U.S. 67 at 5:27 p.m. and was taking the northbound exit onto Arkansas 412 when it hit a 2001 Chevrolet Lumina on the driver's side while trying to turn left, the report said. The driver of the Chevrolet, Marshall McDonald, 56, was killed in the crash. The report does not list the driver of the Mercury or indicate if that person was injured.

A Heber Springs man was killed Wednesday after his car left Arkansas 337 and hit a tree east of Little Dunham Drive in Cleburne County, state police reported.

Scottie Paul Heifner, 38, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet east on Arkansas 337 at 12:25 a.m. when his car left the road coming out of a curve, the report said.

A Mena man was killed Tuesday after his vehicle left the road while traveling on a corner on Arkansas 8 in Polk County, state police reported.

Jimmie Cecil Howard, 65, lost control of the vehicle at 11 p.m. while turning a corner. The vehicle ran off the road and overturned, the report said. The type of vehicle was not listed in the report.

A 92-year-old Kansas man was killed on Interstate 40 in St. Francis County on Wednesday morning while changing lanes, state police reported.

Jack Carey of Hutchinson, Kan., was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla at 8:02 a.m. in the right lane of I-40 and moved into the left lane in front of a 2009 Volvo, the report said. The report does not list the driver of the Volvo or indicate that person was injured in the crash.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of all four crashes.
