Construction work to close Johnson Mill Boulevard lanes

Construction work on Interstate 49 in Johnson will require weekday lane closures on Johnson Mill Boulevard for the next week, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Alternating eastbound and westbound lanes on Johnson Mill Boulevard will be reduced to one lane between the east and west I-49 access ramp intersections. In addition, the I-49 southbound Exit 69 off ramp will be reduced to one left-turn lane onto Johnson Mill Road. The main lane of I-49 traffic will not be affected.

The lane closures will occur weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., starting Friday and ending Friday, November 13, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signs and traffic barrels.

This project is part of AHTD’s Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 4.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. As part of its project to widen I-49, the contractor will be working on the bridge over Johnson Mill Boulevard, installing piles for the bridge foundation.

The work extends from the Fulbright Expressway interchange north to U.S. 412 in Springdale, Sunset Avenue. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2017. More information on this $28.3 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
