State panelist files overdue statement

David Norsworthy, who was appointed to a state commission in February, filed his statement of financial interest with the secretary of state's office Thursday.

The Arkansas Ethics Commission had sent Norsworthy a corrective-action letter advising him that state law required the filing of a statement within 30 days after he filed his oath of office, which he did on March 13. Commission Director Graham Sloan told Norsworthy in the letter, dated May 12, to take "corrective action" by submitting the statement within 10 days.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson appointed Norsworthy of Gateway to succeed Fort Smith businessman Michael Morton on the state Health Services Permit Commission in February. The Arkansas Health Care Association had recommended Norsworthy.

Norsworthy is a partner in some nursing homes also owned in part by Morton.

On Norsworthy's statement, he listed numerous nursing homes and other entities as sources of income or places where he does business or has holdings.

The document reflects that Norsworthy had the statement notarized Wednesday.
