Arkansas junior Jarrion Lawson made one long jump go a long way.

Lawson went 26 feet, 1 1/2 inches on his first and only long jump attempt Thursday at the NCAA West Track and Field preliminary meet Thursday in Austin, Texas, to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The NCAA meet will be held June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore. The top 12 finishers in event at the West and East prelims advance to Eugene.

Lawson, the 2014 NCAA indoor long jump champion who finished fourth in Thursday’s competition, limited himself to one event so he could get ready to run in the first round of the 100 meters.

Lawson also advanced to the second round in the 100 in 10.15 seconds. He’ll run in the second round today.
