Shots probed after 1 wounded in LR

Little Rock police are investigating a Friday morning shooting that injured one person, according to an email from police spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen.

"Multiple subjects were involved in a disturbance and shots were fired" at 5204 Mabelvale Pike, Allen said. The shooting occurred at 10:27 a.m. Friday.

Police found one victim, whose injuries were not life-threatening, at the scene, Allen said.

Police released no further details about the victim or gunman.

Little Rock School District officials were notified of the shooting and lockdown procedures were implemented for Geyer Springs Gifted and Talented Academy, Allen said.

The school is about a quarter of a mile from the shooting scene.

Teen in stolen SUV fled, LR police say

A Little Rock teen was arrested Thursday afternoon, accused of fleeing from officers in a stolen sport utility vehicle, police reported.

Alex Hughes, 16, of 4312 W. 18th St. in Little Rock was arrested at his residence at 2:52 p.m., according to an arrest report.

He was charged as an adult with theft of property, theft by receiving, possession of a handgun by a minor, fleeing, failure to stop after an accident, reckless driving and no driver's license.

Police reported Hughes was spotted driving a stolen 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer and fled in the vehicle. He then struck another vehicle before fleeing on foot and throwing down a stolen Jennings .380-caliber handgun before being arrested, police said.

Hughes was being held in the Pulaski County jail Friday night in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
