Where I live: North side of Mount Sequoyah in Fayetteville.

Occupation: I am the news director and a producer of Ozarks at Large for KUAF-FM, 91.3, the local National Public Radio affiliate.

My favorite space is: What Laura, my wife, and I call "the front room" in our house.

Why? The west side of the room is floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass sliding door that lets us look out on the backyard; an upward-sloping, woodsy hill that is, at times, home to deer, chipmunks, rabbits, groundhogs, squirrels, lizards, birds and foxes. It's like an ultra-big, high-definition TV always tuned to the nature channel. On cold nights (anything below 45 degrees for me) we can have a fire in the fireplace. There's no TV in the room, but we do have a turntable and a radio in there, so music, Razorback basketball or Royals baseball can be on in the background. The windows also make it the favored room of our dogs Reina and Taylor, who delight in barking at passing wildlife. The setting allows us to be as connected or removed from everyday life as we want to be at any moment. Not surprisingly, it's where guests tend to gravitate during a party.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Maybe install recessed speakers for a more balanced sound environment. Oh, and hang up a pennant that says Kansas City Royals: 2015 World Champions.
