Meteorologists: Thunderstorms in holiday weekend forecast

Much of the state will see showers and thunderstorms this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Chris Buonanno, science and operations officer with the agency’s North Little Rock office, said this week’s rainfall will continue and bring the potential for flash flooding this weekend.

Thunderstorms developing across the southern plains will move east toward Arkansas, Buonanno said, and “confidence is high” that storms will drop several inches of rain on western sections of the state.

More than 10 inches of rain has fallen in western and central Arkansas in the past two weeks, which is well above normal for spring, Buonanno said.
