More dining diversity coming to Northwest Arkansas

Indian Restaurants enter the NWA food scene

With all the diverse cuisines offered in Northwest Arkansas, Indian fare has been one that has not yet made a strong appearance. That is starting to change.

R&R Curry Express opened a location in January. The northern Indian restaurant is owned by cousins Rajesh Bhanot and Arun Sandhu, who opened R&R's Curry Express in Fort Smith for about 4 years. The motto of R&R's Curry Express is a fresh-cooking style with healthy spices. There is a variety of meat dishes with beef, chicken, shrimp, cod, lamb and, occasionally, goat.

Hours for R&R's Curry Express in Springdale are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Lunch specials are served 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday. More information is available on the Facebook or by calling (479) 717-6500.

Greenhouse Grille owners Jerrmy Gawthrop and Clayton Suttle announced plans to open an Indian-style restaurant in the former location of Hawaiian Brian's in Evelyn Hills Shopping Center at 1466 N. College Ave. Hawaiian Brian's relocated to 25 E. Center Street.

The Indian-style restaurant, Cardamom & Curry, will not serve authentic Indian cuisine, but rather serve dishes influenced by Indian food. It will likely share a similar casual, clean ambiance as Greenhouse Grille and Wood Stone Craft Pizza, which are under the same ownership.

Cardamom & Curry's Facebook page designates that the cuisine featured will include Himalayan, Nepalese, Indian, Pakistani, vegan and vegetarian dishes. Hours are posted as 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday though Sunday.

Another Indian restaurant will be utilizing a space formerly occupied by Little Guys Movers at 2101 N. College Ave. Khana Indian Grill had previous plans to set up shop on Dickson Street, but this new location will provide ample parking and seating for around 75 people.

The menu will serve a blend of South Indian dishes with other regional fare and will procure local ingredients as well as partnering with Indian producers, according to northwesterner.com.

Khana Indian Grill is scheduled to open this fall and will have a Facebook page and website, khanaindiangrill.com, ready to announce their progress.

There are several Indian restaurants currently serving a taste of the east in Bentonville, according to Urbanspoon.

The Chennai Cafe at 2850 W. Walnut Street in Rogers serves south Indian fare.
