Letter carriers set annual food drive

The U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers will conduct their annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive Saturday.

The food drive is a nationwide effort that collects food for local food banks and pantries, according to a Postal Service news release.

Residents can participate by leaving a bag of nonperishable food items by their mailbox Saturday. Acceptable items include peanut butter, cereals and other boxed items, pasta, rice and canned foods.

"Together, we are continuing to make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans in need," said David Camp, Arkansas district manager, in the release. "The Postal Service is proud to play a major role with our carriers, corporate partners and local community organizations to help stamp out hunger."

The Stamp Out Hunger food drive is in its 23rd year, the release said, adding that last year carriers around the U.S. collected more than 70 million pounds of food.
