GOVERNOR'S ARTS AWARDS

Hutchinsons, council honor 8 contributors to art in Arkansas

Probably the newest face among the Arkansas Arts Council's annual Governor's Arts Awards was the man himself -- Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

"Art," he said, "allows the human soul to breathe more deeply."

The governor and first lady Susan Hutchinson opened their -- well, their gates -- to about 200 supporters and patrons for a buffet lunch and awards presentation March 20.

Each of eight people and organizations were presented home(state)made trophies of turned wood objects by Lakeview artist Ron Ufkes for contributions in the following categories:

• Remica Gray, Texarkana, arts community development

• DeltaARTS, West Memphis, arts in education

• Entergy Arkansas, corporate sponsorships of the arts

• Margaret Jones Bolsterli, Fayetteville, folk life

• Kevin Kresse, Little Rock, individual artist

• Curt and Charlotte Bradbury, Little Rock, patrons

• Kaki Hockersmith, Little Rock, judges recognition

• Jana Beard, Little Rock, lifetime achievement
