Sunrise Service to be held in LR

The annual Community Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. April 5 at First Security Amphitheater, 400 President Clinton Ave., in the River Market District, Little Rock. This is the 27th consecutive year for the communitywide service.

The ecumenical service, organized by Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, will include music by the combined choirs of the church, Philander Smith College, Arkansas Youth Chorale and First Baptist Church. Entertainment will be provided by soloist Christine Donahue Mayo, New Creation Dance Company and Ozark Point Brass.

The offering will benefit the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.

Attendees are encouraged to wear casual dress and take lawn chairs or blankets. Pets on leashes are welcome.

NLR community observes Easter

The North Little Rock Community Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6:30 a.m. April 5 at the Lakewood Village Pavilion, 2851 Lakewood Village Drive.

The service, hosted by Lakewood United Methodist Church, will include a greeting from North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith, music by members of the North Little Rock High School Band and a message by the Rev. Luke Conway.

Pilgrimage honors victims of violence

The second annual Pilgrimage for Peace to mourn victims of violence and pray for peace will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday outside the headquarters of Heifer International, 1 World Ave., Little Rock. Walkers will pass by the Clinton Presidential Center, through the River Market District and across a pedestrian bridge over the Arkansas River.

The walk will end at the Beacon of Peace and Hope, 110 Riverfront Drive, North Little Rock, at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum and a service of remembrance will be held there at 3 p.m. The service will include prayers, reflections from Scripture and literature and the reading of the names of Pulaski County homicide victims from the past year.

Pilgrimage signs and banners will be provided for walkers at the starting point. Transportation back to Heifer International will be available.

Christian writers sponsor workshop

The Little Rock Chapter of American Christian Writers will have its fifth annual Writers Conference, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. April 18 at Summit Church, 6600 Crystal Hills Road, North Little Rock.

The conference will feature Sally Crisp and Carla Killough McClafferty. Crisp teaches in the department of rhetoric and writing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and has edited and ghostwritten nonfiction books. She will discuss “Our Stories, Our Legacy” and lead a workshop on “Telling Your Own Stories: Ways In.”

Nonfiction author and speaker McClafferty will discuss “Out of Your Comfort Zone: Following Where God Leads” and “Using Fiction Techniques No Matter What You Write.”

Registration is $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers until April 12 when the fee for all will be $45. Lunch is $11. Registration form is available online at lracw.com.
