Officials: Remains are of missing man

STUTTGART -- Arkansas State Police officials said Friday that remains found on a road in northeast Stuttgart are those of a man reported missing in November.

A state Crime Laboratory autopsy identified the body found in a drainage ditch along Hartz Seed Road as William "Bill" Gibbs, 62, state police spokesman Bill Sadler said. Family members reported Gibbs missing Nov. 27.

The lab had not yet determined the cause of death Friday evening, Sadler said.

Authorities found Gibbs' empty truck parked and running on Hartz Seed Road on Nov. 28 while searching the area.

On a Facebook page devoted to the search for Gibbs, family members posted a notice of the discovery.

"It is with great sadness that we let you know that our dad's body has been found and he is no longer with us on earth," the message read. "Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as this is so difficult for us."
