Condition of judge injured in zebra attack improving

SEARCY — A hospital spokesman said the condition of a White County district judge who was seriously injured in a zebra attack has improved.

Communications specialist Lee Hogan of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences told The Daily Citizen that Mark Derrick is in good condition. Court clerk Misty Perkins had said the judge suffered eye and arm injuries in the March 15 attack at his home.

The newspaper said the zebra is believed to be owned by Derrick's father.

A spokesman for the Searcy Police Department said he was told by animal control officers that the zebra doesn't violate a 2006 city ordinance against wild animals.

Perkins said court cases presided by Derrick in March have been rescheduled for later this month.
