18,732 lose power briefly in Benton County

Carroll Electric customers in eastern Benton County were without power for 23 minutes Tuesday morning.

Workers were installing a new transformer in Avoca on Tuesday morning, said Nancy Plagge, communication director for Carroll Electric. As they were bringing the transformer online the power dropped leaving 18,732 customers without power starting at 7:32 a.m.

The Avoca station feeds power to the Garfield, Pea Ridge, Prairie Creek, Beaver and Ashdown substations. Ashdown covers eastern Bella Vista.

The new transformer will benefit customers in the future by adding capacity during peak load times, Plagge said.
