"I expect to get farther in the long jump," Saucier said. "This is the second meet of the season, and I didn't know the record was that low.

"When I heard it, I was excited. I wished it had been set toward the end of the year because I'm going to try to jump 24 feet this year."

Saucier broke one of the two meet records on the boys' side during the meet. Bentonville senior Keson Payton had the other in the 100 when he turned a time of 10.92 seconds and broke the previous mark of 11.05.

Two records were also broken and one was tied on the girls side, including one being reset by the previous owner as Bentonville sophomore pole vaulter Isabel Neal cleared 10-8 -- 2 inches higher than her record height last year. Rogers High's Elise Randels tied a meet record when she high jumped 5-4 for the second straight week, while Springdale High discus thrower Ryann Goodsell had a record throw of 121-1, almost 2 feet more than the previous mark.

"She's still transitioning from basketball, really," Springdale coach Sarah Cole said of Goodsell. "She's only had a few practices, so to break a record with maybe a week's worth of practice is pretty unbelievable.

"We expect her to continue to improve as the season goes on, and the more throws she gets, the better. It was also wet and not ideal conditions for throwing the disc."

Bentonville continued its good fortunes in the team titles with its second sweep in as many weeks. The Tigers, with first-place finishes by Payton, Joshua Kruse in the 1,600 and the 4x100 relay team, compiled 158 points to 109 for second-place Fayetteville.

Bentonville's girls were more dominant as they won 10 of the 17 events, including a sweep of the relay events. The Lady Tigers finished with 214.5 points, while Fayetteville was a distant second with 71.

"Most of our girls competed very well," Bentonville coach Randy Ramaker said. "Once again, we're doing different things. Taylor Mahone ran well in the 100 and 4x100 relay, and she's getting better.

"The mile girls ran decent, while the 4x800 and the field events were strong. A lot of it was still the same, but it's still early. All the teams aren't there just yet, and after spring break, then I should be able to tell how good we can be."
