Gala goes country chic

The Sunshine School and Development Center is inviting supporters to get “country chic” for the nonprofit organization’s annual Sunshine Gala. The benefit, set for April 11, will return to Horton Farms in Gravette for a third year.

The casual evening will feature food from K-MAC Catering, live music for two-stepping (or whatever dance you fancy) from Jamie Wolfe & the Wranglers and live and silent auctions. The live auction includes Professional Bull Riding Championship tickets and a trip to Las Vegas.

The nonprofit organization founded in 1958 offers a therapeutic preschool for children ages 18 months to 5 years old who have developmental delays or disabilities. The center also serves school-aged children with outpatient therapies and provides community support for adults with disabilities in Benton and Washington counties.

Mike Fontana, director of advancement for the school in Rogers, said proceeds from the event will go toward supporting offerings at the school such as classroom and therapy interventions. He said the organization currently works with approximately 190 in its preschool classrooms and many others on a consulting basis. Interventions include speech/ language therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy.

Fontana said the adult program at the Sunshine School has grown quite a bit in the last few years. Services for adults include case management and round-the-clock assistance.
