Bentonville names defensive coordinator new head coach

BENTONVILLE — Jody Grant was chosen to succeed Barry Lunney as Bentonville’s head football coach during Monday’s School Board meeting.

The 39-year-old Grant has been on the Tigers’ coaching staff since 2006 and has been the defensive coordinator during the Tigers’ back-to-back state championship runs the past two seasons. He had coaching stints at Clinton and Vilonia before he came to Bentonville in 2004, where he was at Lincoln Junior High for two years before being elevated to the varsity staff.

Under Grant’s direction, Bentonville continued to sport one of the top defensive units in the 7A-West Conference. The Tigers allowed a league-low 118.6 passing yards per game, and they were second to Fort Smith Southside in total defense (262 yards per game) and points allowed (13.7 points per game).
