An 18-year-old was shot and killed and two other people were wounded at a Springdale apartment complex early Friday morning, the Springdale Police Department said in a statement.

The man killed was identified as Fabian Rodriguez of Springdale, according to a later statement.

Police received reports of shots fired about 3:21 a.m. at 32 Applegate Drive. Responding officers talked to a 17-year-old who said people outside his apartment, one holding a machete, had been banging on the window, Springdale police said.

The 17-year-old began firing through the window, hitting two people, police said. He gave chase, continuing to shoot as the people fled, and striking a third person who was in a vehicle, according to police.

In addition to the 18-year-old killed, a 14-year-old boy was shot twice and a 21-year-old woman, who was driving the car, was shot once. Both are being treated at a hospital, authorities said.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, two counts of battery and possession of handgun by a minor, police said.

Police are not yet releasing names, both because of the ages of those involved and pending notification of family.
