Rogers airport gets new name, logo

ROGERS -- Airport officials plan to move forward with a new name, logo and slogan after the City Council approved the changes Tuesday.

David Krutsch, airport manager, said the changes will better reflect the services the airport already provides.

"We are trying to say that Rogers has a higher standard and level of service," Krutsch said. "We are trying to draw that connection into the passenger and pilot's minds who may not be familiar with the airport."

The airport will be renamed from Rogers Municipal Airport Carter Field to Rogers Executive Airport Carter Field.

A tagline, 'Your complete aviation solution,' also will be used for marketing. A new logo displays a plane and globe with Arkansas highlighted. Colors used in the logo are similar to ones used in marketing for Rogers.

"I fully embrace the new name," Krutsch said. "If you have a customer who does not know the airport, if they see that name it will highlight to them that we have a certain level of infrastructure and amenities."

Krutsch said it will take time to transition to the new name. It will gradually be changed on signs, letterheads and marketing literature, he said. A marketing strategy will be developed in future months, he said.

Mayor Greg Hines said the city has been working with the airport on a new plan for several years.

"This is a part of that," Hines said. "We realize because of where we are located in the country we have a pretty decent shot of attaining more business."

The new logo offers a 'powerful message' to pilots, Hines said. The logo speaks to pilots traveling across the country who may be looking for a place to stop and fuel up, he said.

"It shows Arkansas in the middle of the country," Hines said. "It draws that to your attention. I think that was a clever way to do it."

Clyde Temple, airport commissioner, said the branding is new but it stays true to the history of the airport. The airport has served corporations in the region since about World War II, he said.

"There are pictures of C-47 airplanes full of chickens," Temple said. "The main economic use of the early airport was to help develop the poultry industry."

Wal-Mart flies in and out of the airport.

Krutsch said the level of service at the airport is high compared to some municipal airports. It is capable of housing small and large planes with more than 300,000 square feet of indoor space, he said.

The runway and hangers also are equipped to support large corporate jets, he said. The airport also offers ground support, rental cars, a restaurant and flight-planning rooms.

The airport serves about 75,000 passengers annually, Krutsch said. The number is a rough estimate because tickets are not sold.
