Lane Closures Expected on Fulbright, I-49

FAYETTEVILLE -- Work on new wire rope safety barriers on the Fulbright Expressway between Interstate 49 and Gregg Avenue will require several lane closures, according to state highway officials.

Lane closures also are expected near the Cato Springs Road exit and near the Bobby Hopper Tunnel on I-49 to add barriers.

Beginning today the contractor on the project will close the inside lanes of the Fulbright Expressway in both directions nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for about a week.

The inside lanes of I-49, in both directions, will be closed at mile marker 40, south of the tunnel, and mile marker 60, Cato Springs Road, at various times for the next two weeks.

The lane closures will be removed when work is not being done.

Time Striping of Van Buren was awarded the $829,000 contract in September to install the safety barriers. Work is expected to be completed by mid-year.

Motorists are urged to use caution when driving through the work areas.
