Razorbacks open SEC softball play at LSU

The Arkansas softball team will take a nine-game winning streak into today’s SEC opener against No. 5 LSU at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.

The Razorbacks (12-7), who have yet to play a home game at Bogle Park, swept five games at the Lion Classic Scramble in Hammond La., last weekend.

Arkansas senior Devon Wallace is hitting .733 over the past five games and has a team-high .434 batting average overall. Shortstop Kasey Fagan is hitting .415 and is riding a 10-game hitting streak.

The Razorbacks have had two home tournaments scrubbed by winter weather.

Five Arkansas players connected for home runs last weekend: Fagan, Wallace, Haley Meinen, Rachel Box and Shelby Hiers (2).

LSU (22-0) ranks second in the SEC in earned run average (0.99), led by Allie Walljasper (7-0, 0.51 ERA). Baylee Corbello (6-0, 0.88) threw a five-inning no-hitter in LSU’s 11-0 victory over Northwestern State on Tuesday.

Tigers outfielder A.J. Andrews, who is third in the SEC with a .529 batting average, is the reigning SEC player of the week after hitting .909 in four games at the Purple and Gold Challenge last weekend.

Arkansas and LSU did not meet last season. The Tigers own a 50-9 all-time lead in the series.
