TRACK AND FIELD

ASU, UALR athletes honored by Sun Belt

Arkansas State’s Kristina Knott, Roelf Pienaar, Jaylen Bacon and Coach Jim Patchell and UALR’s Ema Dahl have earned year-end individual awards, the Sun Belt Conference office announced Wednesday.

Patchell was named the Sun Belt’s indoor track and field men’s coach of the year after leading ASU to a conference title last week in Birmingham, Ala.

Knott was named the women’s indoor outstanding freshman after winning the 200-meter dash and finishing second in the 60-meter dash. Pienaar, a sophomore, was named the men’s most outstanding field athlete after scoring 21 points at the Sun Belt championships by winning the triple jump, finishing second in the long jump and sixth in the 60-meter dash. Bacon was named the men’s most outstanding freshman after winning the 200-meter dash, second in the 60-meter dash and helped ASU win the 1,600-meter relay.

Dahl, a UALR senior, was named the most outstanding women’s track athlete. Dahl scored 28 points in the Sun Belt Tournament by winning at 1,600-meters and 3,000-meters and finishing second at 5,000 meters.

BASKETBALL

Lyon women’s game postponed

The Lyon College women’s game in the American Midwest Conference Tournament quarterfinals was postponed Wednesday.

Lyon (25-5), the No. 2 seed, will play Harris-Stowe State University (13-16), the No. 7 seed, at 7 p.m. today at Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville. Harris-Stowe defeated Missouri Baptist University 76-51 in the opening round Monday in St. Louis.

BASEBALL

ASU game rescheduled

Arkansas State’s home game against Southeast Missouri that was scheduled for Feb. 25 will be rescheduled for 4 p.m. March 25 at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

The game was originally set for Feb. 24 but was moved to Feb. 25 to allow the Red Wolves to play a makeup game at Ole Miss. The game with SEMO couldn’t be played because of inclement weather. ASU will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., on March 31 to play SEMO to complete the home-and-home series.

GOLF

UALR’s Resen league’s golfer of month

UALR’s Stina Resen has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s golfer of the month, the league office announced Wednesday.

Resen earned the first victory of her career Feb. 24 at the USA Women’s Invitational at Azalea City Golf Club in Mobile, Ala. She also helped lead UALR to a co-championship at the Delta Gamma Challenge on Feb. 16.

Through seven tournaments and 20 rounds of golf in 2014-15, Resen leads the conference in scoring average (73.60) and score vs. par (1.85). She also was recognized as the league’s golf of the month for October at the close the sport’s fall season.
