Jim Maase

Where I live: I live in the Oak Forest neighborhood of Little Rock with my black Lab, Asher.

Occupation/job title: I am the minister of music, arts and worship for Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and director of "Adventures in the Arts" music and arts academy at the church.

My favorite space is: Though I love my entire 1929 Craftsman two-story home, my backyard is an extension of my house during the summer.

Why: My work spaces at the church have no windows because they are underground. There are many busy days when I do not know the weather has changed. When I come home and work in the yard, I connect with nature. I enjoy planting, weeding, and nurturing things to bloom and grow. Somehow digging in the dirt lessens the stress of everyday life. One of my favorite features is the Spanish style fountain I installed several years ago. It provides water and a bath for many creatures: birds, frogs, raccoons and a rabbit. I also love to share this outdoor space with friends to gather, grill and enjoy each other. It is great therapy.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Have more sunshine so I could grow some vegetables and get rid of mosquitoes!
