Goodwin will take a four-stroke lead into today's final 18 holes at Blessings Golf Club, with Varun Chopra of Champaign, Ill., in second at 1-under 143 after shooting a 1-over 73 Wednesday.

Hailee Cooper of Montgomery, Texas, will take a four-stroke lead into the final round of the girls division after carding a second consecutive 1-under 71 for a 142 total. Erica Shepherd of Greenwood, Ind., shot even-par 72 Wednesday and is second at 2-over 146.

"I hit the ball better, but some of my putts didn't fall today," Cooper said. "I two-putted almost every hole I did not birdie. I just have to go in and pretend it is a one-day tournament."

Goodwin started his round with birdies at No. 1 and No. 6 to move to 6 under at the turn. Goodwin was at 7 under after 10 holes, but his string of bogey-free golf ended after 28 holes when he carded a bogey at the par-4 No. 11 hole.

Goodwin dropped another stroke with a bogey at No. 14 but finished with four pars.

"It was a little frustrating because I missed four putts inside 15 feet and three putts inside 10 feet, and two of those were lip-outs for par," Goodwin said. "I gave myself a lot of opportunities, but I wasn't rewarded on the greens.

"It's exciting going to the final round, and I am not going to change my game plan. I'm just going to try and hit as many greens as I can."

Aaron Chen (71) of Fremont, Calif., was the only other boy under par Wednesday, while three other girls broke par

Caroline Curtis of Richmond, Va., carded a 1-under 71. Curtis opened her round with back-to-back bogeys but had three birdies and 13 pars the rest of the way and is tied for third at 147. Rachel Heck of Memphis also shot 1-under 71 and is tied for fifth at 150.

Megan Furtney of South Elgin, Ill., finished with a 2-under 70, which vaulted her from 25th place to 12th. Furtney made the turn at 1 under and followed up a bogey on No. 10 with a eagle on No. 12 and a birdie at No. 13 to go to 3 under, but she had a bogey on the final hole.

Amber Park of Allen, Texas, turned in the shot of the day when she hit a hole in one on the par-3, 115-yard No. 10.
